Earlier this week, Chief Tommy Carter and I, had the priviledge of visiting the Martinsville, Virginia Sheriff’s Office. We were there to present the Rescue of the Year award and several other awards for Lifesaving. I enjoy these visits as they tend to renew my passion for what we are doing. Often, as I work in my office, I get bogged down with the daily administrative pressures and stresses of the operation. This, even though I try to resist ,sometimes causes me to wonder why I continue to do this. Especially now, when there are many that have entered into this arena with motives that are truly suspect. That is when these visits work wonders! I get back into the field, so to speak, and interact with those that believe in what we are doing and why. They are making this program the success it is and being around them is inspiration to anyone. They are out there, working with the people they choose to serve and making a difference in their lives on a daily basis. These caring people not only elect to respond and bring these loved ones home at any time, they become extensions of the families, willing and able to serve and assist in many ways far beyond what would be expected as part of the program.

I salute and thank you ,who have supported the Project Lifesaver program and have made it the “Gold Standard” others try to emulate. You are role models for your community and your agencies, as well as re-inspiring me to continue to work to make your task easier and more far-reaching.

Copycats Beware!

Thirteen years ago, I founded Project Lifesaver to help law enforcement and a community which I saw was increasing. When I did this I envisioned the good in people and believed they would join with us in the effort. I should have known better, after all, I am a cop! It appears we have opened a [...]

2011 is behind us & 2012 is bringing its experiences

2011 is behind us and 2012 is bringing its experiences. It has brought to mind that a reminder should be put forth concerning tracking programs and technologies. Besides the experiences, 2012 is bringing forth many who profess to have the best programs and tracking technologies available and are making large claims of success to support [...]

A Word from Chief Saunders

Again, the actions of others have led to a number of questions being submitted to Project Lifesaver. I refer to other organizations and their attempts to spread their presence. First, we do not lease or mail order transmitters to caregivers. Our program is base with local organizations that control the placement and maintenance of them. They [...]

Chief Highlights the 2011 Project Lifesaver International Training Conference

Well, we here at PLI have been very busy. First, we have been working on new equipment and designs to make searches more efficient and easier. Second, we have changed over our client data base from control of a for profit entity to our exclusive control. This was costly and difficult. We are currently working [...]

WHY?

This morning another headline hit the news concerning a 4 year, Autistic boy, found deceased in a pond after wandering off. This type of incident should not happen! Especially when there is a program to deal with these incidents. Project Lifesaver is available to all public safety agencies, and with the rising number of incidents [...]

Expert Opinion

Recently, I had the priviledge of attending and speaking at the Ohio Project Lifesaver Conference. While there I heard a speaker who had studied Project Lifesaver, its effectiveness and its technology. If you would like to see his study, it will soon be on our facebook page however, I thought I’d share some of his [...]

History

Recently I was chastised because I have not revealed enough about what Project Lifesaver has done to help its member agencies and their clients. I guess I just thought everyone would know. So, with prodding, I am, from time to time, going to place some apparently little known fact from our history on my blog.  [...]
