Many times I have said “The people in the member agencies conducting Project Lifesaver are the gears that make this whole thing work.” I am reminded of that every day through newspaper articles, blog posts and even emails that come into PLI Headquarters. Take for instance; Today I received an email from Canada. A new agency member just getting under way. In the email the writer explained the long process they and an officer from the agency had to go through to get the program started. The email went on further to explain how they had actually been denied the funding they had orginally sought but, had persevered and eventually received the money, from other sources to get started. The tenacity and dedication they demonstrated was overwhelming as it showed the kind of people who are conducting this program.
They are not seeking recognition, nor out to line their pockets and make themselves wealthy, at the expense of others. They are not looking for long term agreements or hard lining agencies or citizens with enormous promises if they go with them. They are simply out to protect their citizens, save lives and bring loved ones home. They go out every month and change batteries and check the welfare of their clients and many go even further by helping when clients may be in need. This is a service to humanity and their communities and there is no commendation that can ever recognize such selflessness. I thank them, commend them and ask that they never lose this sense of honor and duty. It is they who make this work. Without them, there would be no Project Lifesaver and many would not have come home safely.
