The Nation's Most Effective Program For Locating And Rescuing
Missing Alzheimer's Patients.
Project
Lifesaver cautions against attempts to locate missing
Alzheimer's patients with GPS based systems - we explain why
Project
Lifesaver has completed over 1,000 Successful Search &
Rescue Missions for Wandering Victims Of Alzheimer's Disease,
Autism, Down syndrome and
related dementia type Disorders. All persons were found using Project
Lifesaver at a 100% recovery rate. All persons were found alive
and returned home. Project Lifesaver uses electronic tracking
systems to locate the patient during a wandering incident.
Project Lifesaver is not a passive bracelet with a toll free number.
Such bracelets do not locate the patient, they provide
information about the patient once they are located and someone
calls the number. Many times, wandering incidents end tragically
because the individual is not found quickly enough. Project
Lifesaver has been successful because it actually locates the
person quickly , before it is too late.
The difference between a passive ID bracelet and an active
tracking device is paramount to locating the person fast enough
to save a life.
Project Lifesaver is not affiliated with the Alzheimer's
Association or any of its programs. Project
Lifesaver is a pro-active ,electronic tracking, public
safety based program.
No
Program Matches Project Lifesaver's Success !
Project Lifesaver is the only program which is based upon an
exclusive partnership with local Sheriff, Police, Fire and other
public safety agencies to train and equip them to accomplish
this critical life saving mission. WE BRING LOVED
ONES HOME.

Some
Facts And Figures on Alzheimer's disease from the World Health
Organization
It is estimated that
there are currently about 18 million people worldwide with
Alzheimer's disease. This figure is projected to nearly
double by 2025 to 34 million. Much of this increase will
be in the developing countries, and will be due to the ageing
population. Currently, more than 50% of people with
Alzheimer's disease live in developing countries and by 2025,
this will be over 70%

Recently, an
agency inquired stating they had the required funding to start
Project Lifesaver but, would only do so if:
Caregivers would be made to come to the agency facility, pick up
the battery and band and change it themselves.
While we offered several options, the end result: the changing
of batteries and bands by the agency insures a fresh, working
battery is installed, the transmitter is working, and the case
is intact. It also allows interaction with the family and
observance of how the client is getting along.
We will not change our stance on this issue. We will work with
an agency to provide options; however, aside from the
aforementioned, it is important for the agency to know the task
has been accomplished. And
in answer to the agency representative's statement, "It's not a
police officer's job to change batteries", I take issue. As a 38
year law enforcement veteran and 23 year commander of the
"special operations team" , I, along with many others, still
believe our job is to protect our citizens. Whether it is
locating and bringing them home safely, or removing "bad guys"
from the street. If changing a battery once a month helps us in
our efforts, then so be it.
Sincerely,

Within the hour of posting this letter on our website, we began
to receive letters of support. We would like to share a few.
Chief
Saunders, I could not agree with you more concerning the battery
change out. What police officer would not want to help
themselves find a missing person and know that the equipment was
checked and placed on by the agency. This is community policing
at his finest. Thanks for all the work you do for lifesaver and
keep up the good work.

Chief
Saunders, I agree entirely. Our deputies enjoy the interaction
with the client and their family. It also gives the family a
half hour or so to take care of household chores as they know
that their loved one is being watched and kept safe. I just
spent 40 minutes yesterday talking with one of our clients and
her 2 elderly sisters and I can't describe the look of joy on
their faces as they told me stories of growing up together on
their family farm. This program is a truly positive way to give
back to our community.
